Dear Safaricom,

I do not know how you decided that no one NEEDS to make a call they will gladly pay for after 9pm. I do not know how you thought that was beyond the realm of possibility. Say if I had to call the police, in case I thought they would come, or my father, to remind him to take his meds so I wouldn’t need to call an Ambulance or someone in the middle of the night to get him to hospital in case something happenned. These things are real. And while I entirely appreciate the idea of free calls after 9pm, and have been so fortunate as to enjoy the service together with invaluable notions, like getting through to someone whenever I want- It gets to a point when I move beyond the acceptance that your service is not just dysfunctional, but rotten altogether, that I would rather pay someone marginally more competent a marginally greater sum to make sure that I never have to read the words “call failed,” or hear “your call cannot be completed due to congestion in the network,” again.

What shall happen if we (God forbid) had a bomblast scenario again and everyone tried to make a call?! si the thing would crash entirely? Shares or no shares, I’m out. TOMORROW I’m getting everyone in my household a Celtel line. I shall move that everyone at my workplace get a celtel line. I will bleeding make phone calls when I want. 3 shillings is a small price to pay for a phone conversation with someone I care enough about to want to call after 9 o’clock. I would also like to say that I am not married to celtel by any means, but until that 3rd mobile company comes, or safaricom styles up their network altogether, read my lips:

Celtel. My Network (that works)

(because I can) Call. Daddy now

Yours faithfully (not)

Ngwatilo

June 4th edit: just loaded 2,000ksh to get my safaricom prepaid blackberry service (anyone who pays 5K on safaricom for it is ripping off and being ripped off by their company – and anyone personally choosing safaricom postpaid blackberry service is high) and called the requisite numbers to activate, and Safaricom had the audacity to take the money and not give me my EDGE. Of course I didn’t bother calling safaricom prepaid customer service (I’m in touch with reality) so I shall call postpaid service where I have a chance of reaching a human being.

My morning prayer: Please God, I want a mobile company that knows what it’s doing with my money, my time, and my handset.
